RAFAEL TARQUINIUS
Rafael means "God has healed." The meaning of Tarquinius is unknown but goes back to the time of the Etruscans and his bloodline does as well. He was born on the coast of Spain and his maker was the owner of an Italian shipping company who employed mortals paying them well to protect him. He enjoyed traveling to various lands and took pride in making vampires in every place on the map. He thought of them as his sons and daughters and gave them his name.
Rafael was about 19 and liked to drink, gamble, carouse, and fight. Exactly the type of man Mr Tarquinius was looking for. They first met one moonless night as Rafael was stumbling home foolishly alone but afraid of nothing. His maker appeared before him suddenly as if to challenge him. He appeared to be another late night drunkard at first but there was something about the way he stood there that made Rafael curious and then afraid but unable to stop walking towards his fate.
That night Mr Tarquinius had already tasted the blood of other victims and wasn't desperately hungry but something about Rafael made him drink deeply. He didn't give the gift to everyone whose blood he tasted but he knew he wanted to bond with Rafael and make him a companion. Rather than allowing him to go home he weakened him and took him back to his quarters aboard a cargo ship safe from all who might wonder what happened to Rafael and attempt to find him.
He spent the next week or so holding Rafael onboard, allowing him meals but barring him from leaving, and enjoying the process of slowly taking his mortality. Finally one night he finished the process forcing Rafael to drink his blood in return. Rafael resisted at first but drinking the blood of a powerful vampire is an intense feeling and he took to it in seconds. He was so ravenous anyway having been slowly drained that he got an especially large dose of this potent blood.
It hits like a drug, like an out of body experience traveling into other realms, remembering sights and sounds you've never known, but which are contained in the blood of the maker. Rafael was hooked instantly and the next night his new "father" showed him how to hunt. Rafael already had courage and strength but now it was magnified and amplified. Mr Tarquinius had to reign him in because when too many victims are taken in the same area it causes suspicion and problems. Mr Tarquinius decided it would be best to leave port that night and so they did.
Since that time Rafael has had hundreds of victims and made a number of vampires himself. At some point in his recklessness he brought trouble to himself and had to leave his physical body. He now exists on the astral plane but he has a passionate need for physical sensations and seeks the companionship of a mortal.
